Welcome to American Legion Post 711
The following items have been an integral part of Post 711's support of the local community.
Other items are supported on a case to case basis:
1. Second grade at all three elementary schools, and introduction to the American
flag, Pledge of Allegiance and flag folding and its meaning. This generally is
done in November around Veterans Day.
2. Post participation in the Lake Isabella Christmas Parade. This happens the first
Saturday after Thanksgiving. Post has plenty of candy to give to the children.
3. Post participation in the Whiskey Flat Parade. Whiskey Flay Days is in February each year.
4. Boys State (Girls State) nominees:
* Selection is made from the High School Junior Class, generally around
February. The number of boys selected is dependent on the financial
ability of the Post. Girls State selectee's paid attendance is handled by
the Post 711 Auxiliary if they are an active unit.
* The Young men and ladies, and their families, who attended Boy and Girls
State are recognized by the Post at a pot luck dinner, generally held in October.
* At the Spring High school recognition assembly, held in May, the Boy and Girl
state attendees are recognized and presented with an American Legion medallion
and certificate.
5. The Post has recognized those young men and ladies who participate in the Future
Farmers of America program with an American Legion medallion and certificate.
This happens in May. This recognition is made in honor of Doyle Parrish, former
Post 711 Commander, who was active in the FFA at the Lake Isabella High School.
6. The Post has had a pot luck dinner at Christmas time. This has been an annual get
together for good times and good will. Occasionally, the Post has collected Toys
for Tots and food items for the Salvation Army.
7. The Post annually recognizes a Sheriffs Deputy, County Fireman and a
Forest Service Fireman. Each is presented with an American Legion Certificate.
This is done at a pot luck dinner with their family and friends invited. This is
generally held in March. Individuals are nominated for this award by their
respective department.
8. Post 711 provides support to Lake Isabella Boy Scout Troop 690 when possible.
