Ed Ryan, Commander Column

Greetings from your Post Commander:

This the time of year we think of family and friends and all the good times we had with them over the years.  Many of our veterans have left us to go to Post Ever Lasting but we can still think of them and offer up a little prayer.  To all our members and friends of Post 711 I wish you the most happiest of Holiday seasons.

The Post has started to get some new members and hopefully they will get active with the running of the Post.  Our new First Vice Commander Russell Berry has been really working hard bringing some new life into the Post.  To him I must say “Well Done.”

For 2011 there is a special project which I would like to get started.  That’s collecting persona items like shaving cream, razors, combs, etc. and clothing items like socks,

T-shirts, shorts and other personal items.  We will then take them to our Veterans at either Los Angeles, Fresno or Barstow.  If you would care to help, please let us know and we will come and pick them up.

Again, have a happy Holiday and keep checking this web site for the current updated information and programs.

Post 711:  Commander.

Russell Berry,1st Vice Commander Column

Greetings Comrades and all Legion Family members.

With this being my first letter as 1st Vice Commander, to the members of the Kern River Valley Post 711. Let me first tell you a little about myself. I am an Army Veteran, serving from 1964 to 1967 during the Vietnam conflict. I joined the American Legion in 2007 in San Francisco and transferred to Post    in Ridgecrest, California. I'm very happy to have found Post 711 here in Lake Isabella and have transferred my membership here..

I understand that over the last few years, our Post has had only a few members showing up for the meetings. To those few who have kept the Legion alive and well in the Kern River Valley, thank you for your strong support. With that said, we have started a membership support and a drive for new and transfer members. Please, remember our obligation as Legionnaires is more than just to pay our dues and carry a card.

The American Legion as a whole is only as strong as the sum of all its members. With so many members missing at our meetings, your voice may not be heard. We need you and your voice and your opinions to keep us strong. So please help us, and come out and meet your Post officers, fellow members, and participate in our functions. Tell us your thoughts and make your voice heard. If there are reasons you are not or can not  attend, please let us know that too, so that we can remedy any problems.

We are here to serve you. "Veterans Helping Veterans". We are one family and we want to be a happy, healthy and strong family.

We are going to have our Christmas Dinner meeting on December 15, at 6 PM. Please come and join us  bring your family and/or friends. Please bring a non-perishables food item or an unwrapped toy. Remember that our economy is still bad, and so many families and Veterans are out of work.

Also, remember our Troops still serving in harms way and show your support.

"GOD BLESS YOU"  "GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS"  and

"GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA"

Russ Berry

Kaye Ryan, Adjutant Column

I want to thank all of the members who have paid their 2011 dues.  We are close to being 100% paid but we need the few remaining members  to send in their due. If your dues are not paid by December 31, 2010 you lose your benefits so get them in. Hope to see you at our next meeting. Remember December 15, 2010 if our Christmas Dinner, will be a spaghetti dinner and raffle.

Thank You. For God and Country

Kaye Ryan
